"Never confuse activities for progress," and other words of wisdom from 3M’s Cindy Kent
May 30, 2017

Cindy Kent, who leads 3M’s Infection Prevention Division, addressed a sellout crowd of more than 400 women at the Carlson School’s 13th annual Women’s Leadership Conference on April 28. With a theme of “Own your Own Journey,” the conference was designed to inspire women and expand their professional networks.

Kent shared thoughts gleaned from 20+ years in the healthcare industry. In 2014, she was named one of the “Top 35 Women Leaders in Healthcare” by the Women’s Health Leadership TRUST of Minnesota, and one of six “2015 Wonder Women,” an honor bestowed by Twin Cities Business Magazine upon professionals who use their influence to help others.

Cindy Kent quotes:

“Never confuse activities for progress”—on the importance of doing things that will launch you forward.

“My first job was in the cornfields of Indiana at a manufacturing plant. It was an excellent learning experience.”

“At senior levels, we bring two things to an organization: performance capital and relationship capital.”

"27 women CEOs are simply not enough" —on the need for more change in corporate America.
